Tutorial Action Plan

The Tutorial Action Plan (TAP) of the Faculty of Optics and Optometry brings together a set of actions aimed at guiding, orienting and accompanying students during their university studies.

The tutorial action is aimed at facilitating their integration into the institution and serves as a bridge between the students and the different services. In addition, it contributes to personalising university education and gives support to students in their training process for the degrees that are taught at the Centre: Degree in Optics and Optometry, Double Degree in Optics and Optometry, and Master’s Degree in Optometry.

General objective

  • To establish a system of information, guidance and academic monitoring for the students of the degrees taught in the Faculty of Optics and Optometry.

Specific objectives

  • To facilitate the student's integration into the university system.
  • To provide information to students about academic aspects related to the development of curricula, timetables, evaluation system, other academic activities, career opportunities, work systems, study time, etc.
  • To provide the student with an instrument of guidance and support that will facilitate the basis of their academic project.
  • Guidance on the curricular path.
  • To inform about professional opportunities.
  • To seek support and improvement mechanisms for communication between students.

For students at the start of studies

Welcome day

The welcome day is attended by the dean’s team, the Director of the Optometry Department, the first-year coordinator teacher, and A Ponte programme student tutors.

It provides information on academic aspects related to the development of the curriculum they are starting, as well as the different services offered by the USC to facilitate their integration into the university system.

Visit to the Faculty facilities

Carried out by the dean's team and student tutors of the A Ponte Programme of the USC.

The participation of the student tutors in these activities allows them to be in contact with the new students from the beginning of the course, and then through the e-mail opticaeoptometria.alumnostitores [at] usc.es (opticaeoptometria[dot]alumnostitores[at]usc[dot]es), for any guidance they may need.

Introduction to the use of the Library

Indications and recommendations for the study of some subjects. Action to be carried out by the coordinator of the subject, course and title.

Actions throughout the development of the studies

Mobility

Informative talk and orientation of the degree coordinator and Academic Mobility Manager (AMM) on mobility programmes, which takes place at the beginning of November.

Attention to incoming students to facilitate their integration into the university system

Action to be carried out by the Degree Coordinator, the AMM and student tutors.

EDP/ EMP information talk and orientation

  • Informative talk in which, with the EMP or EDP Guide as a reference, indications will be given and queries will be resolved. This will take place at the end of the first semester.
  • Informative talk/guidance on supervised work placements (Degree) and external work placements (Master’s Degree).
  • Informative talk in which, with the Guide to Supervised Work Placements or Guide to External Work Placements as a reference, indications will be given and resolved. This will take place at the end of the first semester.

USC Extraordinary Tutorial Support Programme

This can be requested in its virtual secretariat, under the terms established in each academic year for this purpose (First period, for subjects for the 1st semester and year, in the second half of September; according to the period, for subjects of the 2nd semester, in the first half of February).

Actions in the completion of studies

  • Career guidance
  • Personal visit of CNOO of Galicia.
  • Information on job search and entrepreneurship.
  • Job centre
  • Orientation information session on postgraduate training offers.

Actions generally applicable to the whole student body

All students will be kept informed of the calls that may be of interest to them through the student delegation. Monitoring actions: In each of the courses, the course coordinator will contact the corresponding student delegate and teachers at the middle and end of each semester.

Extracurricular training in optics-optometry

Throughout the course, a programme of conferences and talks will be organised to bring students into contact with the professional and business world of the sector, as well as talks with a scientific content.

The dissemination of the TAP will be carried out through three channels:

  • Guide to each degree. The TAP of the Faculty of Optics and Optometry will be included in the centre's guide.
  • Welcome sessions. In the welcome sessions organised by the Dean's team at the beginning of the year, students will be informed of the existence of the TAP.

The evaluation will be carried out at the end of the academic year, through the centre's own surveys that will be analysed by the Degree Committee and reported to the Quality Committee.

This evaluation will serve fundamentally to collect the difficulties and problems of the application of the TAP and the suggestions for improvement, in order to adapt it to the characteristics and needs of the students of the Degree in Optics and Optometry and the Master’s Degree in Optometry.

Student tutors

The figure of the student tutor is that of a "veteran" student who, fundamentally, guides and supports the new student body that joins a USC centre and degree, in order to facilitate guidance and better integration into the university environment.

Their duties are:

  • To support, inform and guide students in their integration
  • To give individual and collective attention to the students when they arrive at the Faculty, informing them of the physical, organisational and functional structure
  • To inform them about the structure of the degree: courses, subjects, teachers, class schedules...
  • To inform them, guide them and be at their disposal to direct them to the most appropriate bodies and instances of the centre or the USC to manage their queries, problems, etc.
  • To inform them of the calls for European, national and international programmes, which serve as a training complement.
  • To collect their suggestions, complaints, opinions and pass them on to the centre's management team
