(1) The main aim of this course is to familiarize students with basic concepts of English Phonetics and Phonology and with the sound system of General Received Pronunciation.
(2) To practice transcription of words, sentences and texts.
(3) To practice perception and production of sounds.

Good knowledge of the English Language, English will be the language used in class. Thus, students will have to speak English when they participate in class.
In the Expositivo sessions (lecture classes) each topic will be explained based on the recommended bibliography for each thematic unit. Students will have to read the recommended compulsory bibliography to debate the main points of each unit.
In the interactive sessions (Seminar) exercises will be carried out to transcribe words, sentences and texts.
In the Laboratory sessions perception, production and transcription of sounds will be practiced (ear-training)
In the Tutorials the students will ask questions about the doubts and difficulties they may have.
Students will be assessed as follows:
Expositivo sessions (lectures). Final test: 50%
Interactive Seminar Sessions. Continuous evaluation and final test: 30%
Laboratory sessions. Final test: 20%
The assessment system will be the same in the first and second calls, as well as for the repeating students. For the second opportunity, the components that have been passed in the first call will be kept (expositivo sessions, interactive sessions or laboratory sessions).
Students with official leave of attendance will be assessed exclusively with a final written exam (expositivo (50%) and interactive (30%) sessions), and a laboratory exam (20%).
IMPORTANT
-Lessons will be conducted in English. The correct use of the English language will be taken into account for assessment purposes.
-Inadequate academic conduct (plagiarism, cheating, etc.) will be penalized. Note the following about plagiarism: In the event of fraudulent performance of exercises or tests, art. 16 of the Regulations for the assessment of students academic performance:
“A fraudulent performance during an exercise or test will mean a fail grade in the corresponding call, regardless of any
disciplinary processes that may be followed against the offending student. Plagiarised work or work carried out by using information obtained from accessible sources open to the public, among others, without due re-elaboration or reinterpretation citing the authors and the sources, are considered fraudulent."

Laboratory classes: 16 hours
Private study: 7 hours a week
