Internet access to the database and images

Since 1997, the University Historical Archive has conducted several projects for the description, computerisation and digitisation of its collections, taking advantage of the benefits offered by the use of ICT in the public dissemination of documentary heritage.

This initiative, pioneer in Galicia at the time, was and continues to be decisive in providing access through the Internet to nearly 150,000 descriptive records and 3,200,000 images belonging to various documentary collections. In addition to the obvious advantages of this work and the investment made for numerous studies and research, it is also helping to safeguard the integrity of this valuable collection of documents.

Currently, the USC, through its Historical Archive, is changing its dissemination strategy to join, as a member entity, the project promoted by the Xunta de Galicia called Galiciana. Patrimonio dixital de Galicia (Digital Heritage of Galicia), in which Galician memory institutions participate to form the largest directory and repository of cultural heritage of our community.
