By the end of this course students should be able to
• Know the basic bibliography and the main approaches, and be able to apply various aids and tools
• Apply critically the presented theories and methods
• Take a critical approach to different dictionaries, discuss problematic issues and make suggestions for improvements
• Deal with resources and translation strategies and techniques
• Analyze academic papers on the subject and deal with technical problems
• Improve their communication skills and make a presentation to other course participants; participate in seminar discussion

• Both theoretical notions and their application will be taught through practical activities (including online exercises).
• Both inductive and deductive methods are used.
• The exercises will be sent to the students or will be downloadable from the e-learning platform. These exercises have a threefold aim: a) to approach the selected phenomena critically, b) to propose solutions to problems, and c) to discuss these proposals.
• Block seminar during the mobility semester (date and duration to be announced)
1) 1. Opportunity :
a) Class attendance and active participation + exercises: 30%
b) 2 short take-home assignments or one longer one: 70%.
It is necessary to pass a + b.
2) 2. Opportunity: The assessment on the second opportunity will be based on the same criteria.
For students who are officially exempt from attending: one take-home assignment: 100%
Academic misconduct (cheating, plagiarism in exercises or tests) will be penalized according to the University regulations on student assessment (“Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións”).
Attendance: max. 35 hours.
Individual work: solution of homework/completion of homework(s)
Students are encouraged to attend and participate actively and regularly in class, to revise and to complete their notes and to read the bibliography.
