The origins of the centre date back to 1849 with the creation of the Teacher Training School of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The current Faculty of Education Science was created in 1996 and offers 11 official degrees: four degrees, five master's degrees and two PhD programmes, all of which are in great demand. Its PhD Programme in Education is the one with the highest demand in the USC and the second most demanded in Education Science in the Spanish State. The faculty is physically divided into two buildings, one on the North Campus and the other on the Life Campus.
